IED Blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma Injures Senior Police Officer and Others
An IED blast was triggered by Naxalites on Monday in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, leaving a senior police officer and several personnel injured. Akash Rao Giripunje, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) for the Konta Division, District Sukma, was critically injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists detonated near Dondra on the Konta-Errabora road.
The incident occurred during a foot patrol duty led by Additional SP Akash, aimed at preventing Naxalite incidents ahead of the Bharat Bandh called by the CPI (Maoist) for June 10, 2025. A police officer stated, “An additional superintendent rank police officer was critically injured while several other personnel and officers also sustained injuries in the pressure IED blast.”
All the injured are being treated at Konta Hospital, where the condition of Additional SP Akash Rao is reported to be very serious and critical. The other injured personnel are currently out of danger. Authorities are making efforts to transfer Additional SP Akash Rao to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment to ensure the best possible care.
The attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by Naxalites in Sukma district, a region known for frequent Maoist activities. Security forces remain on high alert as they continue operations to counter insurgency in the area.
