Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj's Grand Engagement Ceremony in Lucknow: A Fusion of Cricket and Politics

Lucknow is special today as the city hosts a big ring ceremony at The Centrum Hotel, where Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj celebrated their engagement on June 8, 2025. The event, a vibrant fusion of cricket and politics, drew over 300 guests, including prominent figures from both fields, making it a high-profile affair.

The couple made a stunning appearance, with Priya Saroj arriving in a pink lehenga and Rinku Singh looking dapper in a cream-coloured sherwani. Pictures from the event show them well-dressed and radiant, standing on a grand stage adorned with floral decorations. The ring ceremony began around noon, with Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj exchanging rings in an emotional moment that left Priya in tears, as captured in viral videos.

The guest list was a who’s who of politics and cricket. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, along with Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Ram Gopal Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, and Iqra Hasan, a close friend of Priya, were among the attendees. From the cricket world, Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice-President, blessed the couple, stating, “May both of them enjoy a beautiful life, this is a wonderful match. Each excels in their own field, and together, they will make a strong and successful pair.” Former cricketers Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla, and Uttar Pradesh Ranji captain Aryan Juyal also attended.

The event was meticulously planned, with special arrangements for security, including barcoded pass-only entry and local police presence to ensure privacy for the VVIP guests. Guests enjoyed a curated vegetarian feast blending traditional Awadhi cuisine with global flavors, featuring dishes like Bengali rasgulla, kaju paneer rolls, paneer tikka, and matar malai, personally finalized by the couple.

Priya Saroj, 26, hails from Karkhiaon village in Varanasi and represents the Machhlishahr constituency in Jaunpur as a first-time MP, having won in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Her father, Toofani Saroj, a three-time MP and current MLA from Kerakat, has been a prominent figure in Samajwadi Party politics. Rinku Singh, 27, from Aligarh, is a rising star in Indian cricket, known for his explosive batting for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and his contributions to India’s T20I squad, with 546 runs in 33 matches.

The ceremony follows the couple’s visit to the Chaudhera Wali Vichitra Devi Temple in Bulandshahr for blessings, adding a traditional touch to the modern celebration. The hustle and bustle in Lucknow were palpable, with Rinku Singh’s fans gathering outside The Centrum Hotel to catch a glimpse of their idol. Some uninvited Samajwadi Party workers also stood nearby, drawn by the event’s grandeur.

Associate reporter Pankaj Jha described the atmosphere as electric, with guests arriving one by one and the couple engaging in casual conversations with attendees. “The flow of guests continues, and the stage is set for a memorable event,” Jha noted. The engagement marks a prelude to their wedding, scheduled for November 18, 2025, at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi, where a traditional and royal ceremony is planned, with the Peacock Lawn and Darbar Hall already booked.

This ring ceremony, much like the recent engagement of cricketer Kuldeep Yadav in Lucknow, underscores the city’s growing status as a hub for high-profile events. With Rinku Singh’s childhood friends, cricketing peers, and political heavyweights in attendance, the event was a true celebration of love and camaraderie. As Ranveer, another associate, remarked, “This is where cricket and politics meet, creating a historic moment.”
