Sonam Raghuwanshi Found at Dhaba in Ghazipur Amid Raja Raghuwanshi Murder Probe
Sonam Raghuwanshi, the wife of late Raja Raghuwanshi, was located early Monday morning near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road in Uttar Pradesh, following the mysterious death of her husband in Meghalaya. The senior police official confirmed that Sonam was found at Kashi Dhaba after she contacted her family members around 3 am to inform them of her whereabouts.
According to the ADG Law and Order, “Sonam Raghuwanshi called her family members and informed them that she was present at the Kashi Dhaba on Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Sonam’s family members gave this information to the Indore Police, following which they contacted Uttar Pradesh Police. Acting on this, Ghazipur Police took her to the hospital and then to the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur.” The official added that Meghalaya Police, who were in Indore investigating the case, will take custody of Sonam once they arrive in Ghazipur. The UP Police has not interrogated her.
Raja Raghuwanshi and Sonam, both residents of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, had gone missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja Raghuwanshi’s body was recovered in the northeastern state, sparking a high-profile investigation. Meghalaya Police recently stated that Sonam had surrendered, a claim met with skepticism by Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuwanshi. Vipul told reporters, “We will not agree that Sonam is an accused until and unless she confesses to her crime. However, if Sonam is involved in the case, then she should be punished.” Meanwhile, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, defended his daughter, asserting her innocence and accusing the Meghalaya Police and government of “formulating” stories and “lying” from the outset.
Both family members of Raja Raghuwanshi and Sonam Raghuwanshi have demanded a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe, citing a lack of transparency and minimal response from the Meghalaya government. The case has gained significant attention due to its complex nature and the involvement of multiple state police forces.
In a related development, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced that three assailants from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested in connection with Raja Raghuwanshi’s killing. The Meghalaya DGP confirmed to ANI that the three men were apprehended, and the woman who surrendered was identified as Sonam, the wife of late Raja Raghuwanshi. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough, but questions surrounding Sonam’s role in the case remain unresolved.
As the investigation continues, Sonam Raghuwanshi is set to be handed over to Meghalaya Police for further questioning. The case, which has gripped the nation, underscores the urgency for clarity and justice, with both families awaiting answers in this tragic saga.
